What kind of classes can I take other than computer-related classes?

In addition to mathematics and physics required as a university student in the Faculty of Engineering, we have classes in English, second foreign language, physical education, and what is generally called liberal arts. Furthermore, classes are held to learn how to write a report and how to make a presentation. You can acquire cultural and technical skills as a university student.

I would like to know about computer-related facilities.

Wireless LAN is installed in the campus, and web mail accounts are distributed to all students. What kind of classes are Experiments and Exercises?

At the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, in addition to simply learning knowledge about computers, we place importance on the ability to actually make and move things. Experiments and Exercises are hands-on classes based on this policy, in which students actually solve problems and program computers.

Can I follow the class?

In order for students to fully understand the contents of the lecture, classes to learn the basics of programming or the like are divided into three classes in each grade and are conducted in small groups. Also, in the hands-on classes, several graduate students will be assigned as the teaching assistants, so you can ask questions whenever you get confused. Furthermore, in order to enable students to smoothly step up to the study of specialized subjects, we have classes in “Engineering Basic Experiments” in which a small number of students take individual instruction from teachers in the first semester of the 1st year undergraduate.

Is there any difference between students who transfer from the technical college and general students?

Transfer students start from the 3rd year undergraduate. Most of the credits acquired in the 1st or 2nd year undergraduate can be replaced with credits acquired at the technical college. There is no big difference between transfer students and general students.

What is graduation research?

It is a research in which each student works with their own theme under the individual instruction of the advising teacher throughout one year of the 4th year undergraduate. By submitting a graduation thesis summarizing the graduation research, you will be able to graduate from the university. Although each theme is different, everyone has the same spirit of “Something New.”

What is a laboratory?

When working on graduation research in the 4th year undergraduate, four or five students are usually assigned to one teacher to take instruction. This group is called a “laboratory.” Each laboratory has its own room, which contains your own office desks, computers, and experimental equipment or the like. Senior graduate students are with us. Please also take a look at the pictures on the page of “College Life” and “Environment.”

Are the experiments conducted until late at night?

In the Faculty of Engineering, graduation research and experiments sometimes make it late to get home. During the night, the security of the building is strengthened to prevent suspicious individuals from entering, and students can enter with their ID cards, so you can work with peace of mind.

Can I study abroad?

There is the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology / International Center which was established to support international exchange and study abroad for students. It offers a variety of study abroad programs and offers advice on study abroad.
And there are about 90 sister school agreements in the world. Please also refer to the page on “International Exchange.”
Apart from studying abroad, there are also opportunities to present the content of graduation research and graduate school research at international conferences in English. Also, there are many students from overseas at the campus, so it would be good to make friends.

Would students in the Faculty of Engineering of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology study agriculture?

It is not necessary for students of the Faculty of Engineering to study agriculture for graduation. However, at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, both Engineering and Agriculture are considered to be part of the study to realize the coexistence of humans, nature and science and technology, and we are engaged in research and education from a broader perspective of symbiotic science and technology.
